San Francisco Bay Area Chapter Information

About SFBA Chapter

• Chartered in 1937 as the Landscape Contractors Association. It is the oldest landscape contractor organization in the state.
Changed name in 1947 to the California Landscape Contractors Association.
• Assumed the San Francisco Bay Area Chapter name in 1951.
• In the early 1970s, the chapter was divided into San Francisco Bay Area Chapter, San Francisco Bay Area/North Chapter, North Coast Chapter, and Central Coast Chapter.
• First Achievement Awards Program took place in 1956. Herb Frank was the first Sweepstakes Award winner.
• First Grass Widows meeting held in 1950. This set the stage for the state association's Women's Auxiliary, which started in 1951.
• Chapter initiated a landscape rehabilitation program in 1956 at four state prisons: Folsom, Soledad, San Quentin, and Tehachapi. Herb Frank was the first chairman of the committee that undertook this work.
• Chapter's first humanitarian project was completed at the We Care Treatment Center.
