So You're a Great Water Manager? Then Prove it!
Association members are invited to participate at no cost in a new pilot project in landscape water management. This project will determine if the participating contractors can meet a landscape water budget and will recognize those contractors if they are successful in doing so. CLCA's Resource Management Committee developed this program to give contractors the opportunity to prove that they are top-notch water managers "in the real world." Participants will be asked to determine the square footage of the landscaped area on specific residential or commercial maintenance sites. Using this information, CLCA will give each of the participants a water budget equal to 100 percent of local reference evapotranspiration. Participants will then provide monthly water meter readings to the program administrator. The program administrator will use the information from those readings to generate a monthly Landscape Water Use Report for each site. This report will present a water use history as well as information on how much water the site is over or under budget. The participating contractor has the discretion to show this document to the project owner or not.
Contractors who are successful in meeting their budget over a one-year period will receive recognition from CLCA. Aside from this recognition, however, all program participation will be confidential. No information regarding the contractor or site performance will be made public without the prior consent of the contractor and property owner.
Enrolling is easy. Simply download an Enrollment Form and fill out one form for each site you wish to include in the program. (CLCA encourages participants to do this for multiple sites. ) A fictitious project owner name can be submitted if you have concerns about confidentiality, but an accurate street address and ZIP code are mandatory. Then fax or e-mail scanned versions of the filled out form or forms to Program Administrator John Moore at (775) 348-0874 or H2omanager@charter.net.
Although currently there is no cost to participate, CLCA reserves a right to charge a fee in the second year of the program, and indeed plans to do so.
After enrolling, you will receive a packet of information to help you read your water meter, information on how your results will be measured, the water budget for the site, and instructions on how to report your monthly meter readings online.
Questions about the program should be directed to Program Administrator John Moore at or (775) 225-7346.
