Sample Letter For Contractors, #2
Back To Immigration Home.
Dear
I'm a landscape business owner in (city), and I believe that the viability and prosperity of my company is at stake. As I am an employer in an industry that disproportionately relies upon the immigrant workforce, I urge you to pass comprehensive immigration reform.
(statement about why current immigration laws make no sense and must be changed, with example to illustrate point)
An enforcement-only approach to solving the immigration problem is not enough and will do more harm to employers and employees than good. Nor will it solve the problems plaguing the immigration system. As Chairman Specter continues to work on an immigration bill, I ask you to help create legislative reform that protects and guarantees the rights of all workers, both native and foreign born, and that guarantees the safety of our nation, without compromising our fundamental civil rights and civil liberties.
Immigration reform must include a guest worker program that has a pathway to earned adjustment. Undocumented immigrants will continue to work in the landscape industry unless you provide them with an avenue to right their wrongs. By not including a guest worker program with earned adjustment, the undocumented will remain here illegally.
Moreover, I can tell you that there are not an adequate number of American workers who want to work in the landscaping business. As an employer, I know the difficulties I face when trying to hire employees. It is not that immigrants are cheap labor and that is why they are hired; rather, the majority of American workers do not want to perform this type of hard, manual labor.
As a citizen, I fully support promoting and protection of our country's national security. However, undocumented working immigrants are not a threat to our security. They simply want to make a living, work hard and take care of their family.
As harmful as the House bill is, it does provide us an opportunity to introduce pragmatic, comprehensive immigration reform. We now have an opportunity to take control of the situation and promote our nation's values, security, and prosperity by proposing reform that is truly comprehensive.
As the (title) of a landscaping business with (number) employees and annual gross sales of (dollars), I am a stakeholder. As such, I urge you to take a realistic approach to reform. Thank you for considering this letter.
Respectfully,
